True Story;

Sitting with this young female client, early 20s, she talks about the different stresses and trying to keep up with her studies, sometimes feeling anxious, but then after a “yuh know” a good smoke “nah not cigarette, don’t deal with that … “marijuana feel so relaxed” but then after it a bit hard to focus and study”

What really would it mean to legalize marijuana? At what age did most start smoking? … https://thecaribbeancurrent.com/caribbean-dilemma-marijuana-medicine-mental-health-approving-a-good-green-herb-or-agatewaydrug/

Music by its very nature appreciates the journey…music has a starting point, a build, a steady beat, usually some climatic catchy break, a chorus, and an eventual close…

so we have Ola completing his journey in the finals of the X Factor…

The disappointment was obvious and understandable but Ola! Ola! …

Music is a journey and soca has made some great strides here… +

Often Little (what we consider as little) Advances

OFFERS Leverage Another …

time (so this is where the music has reached for now) like the waters flowing it has moved and would continue to make its movements…so let’s #Jiggle It #Jiggle It!

and work the musical mindset…focus on the journey…for now getting out of the X factor is simply like a musical bridge with lots more music to come

#Jiggle It #Jiggle It

America’s Got Talent!…its huge! why? because of the fact that talent matters. but now we know these shows are International… why? because people got talent hidden … just waiting for the opportunity to come out

And the Caribbean got T20Cricket…, sometimes written Twenty-20, and often abbreviated to T20, is a short form of cricket. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs. So T20 sort of reflects America’s got talent where batsmen, bowlers, those fielding can display their skills. It’s a time-bound…

#resilience loves knowing the timing when that ‘bell’ would go…its easy then to hold out just a little bit longer

#resilience favours time-bound situations because then our weaknesses can remain covered up a little longer and we do not have to ‘control’ for them…

so many have asked… how is it we can clearly notice the talent at T20 and yet have the West Indies drop in its Test Cricket ratings… well as a Sports Talking Therapist would share but only after allowing one who has ‘been there done that’ to have a say…https://wired868.com/2018/08/05/cover-drive-video-brian-lara-talks-cpl-test-v-t20-and-west-indies-missing-ingredient/

Okay…Test Cricket…is much more reflective of the uncharted territories of that ‘open book test’ called life… it is ongoing with the opportunity for life to challenge us on our weak points…to bowl us some ‘odd’ balls, to get run out, to want to stop but yet needing to find the will to carry on in spite of, to be on the losing end of the game and search within for the resolve, to be winning the game and needing to remain focused to really reach the goal, https://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/2nd-test-day-2-jason-holder-shines-as-west-indies-dominate-bangladesh-1883071to have to deal with cross-cultural issues, and it goes on and on and on..more than ’20-0vers’…

So what is required?

Mastering our mind gym before taking that field and putting all our work from that mind gym into use…

Our Mind Gym

we need to work out doubts but not simply by positive self-talk but by practical preparation…and during this time, preparation includes becoming very familiar with what we would confront…http://zeenews.india.com/cricket/1st-test-west-indies-hope-to-end-22-win-less-years-in-new-zealand-2061321.html

we need to take stock of the fact that anything can happen on the field, or the day before, or the moment before, and so our stress management, relaxation strategies need to be in tune

we need to do ‘jumping jacks’ and figure out those triggers that might cause us to suddenly become anxious, ‘is it a comment’ from the fans/critics, is it something, in particular, that might be said and have a contingency plan to keep the focus

Practical Application

It is one thing to train and another to put training to use…

we can begin to put that training to use by visualizing plays, visualizing performing at different skills

we then need that key factor called adapt adapt…good teams are able to take all learned, all preparations, observe then what is happening and adapt for the benefit of the desired outcome…suppose the player there was an intention to depend on is having an ‘off’ day..what then..is all lost…suppose the winning streak was on and the match had to be disrupted…is that it there for the game?

Life is a test…and working out at our mind gym is not optional its a must no matter how many strengths we have going for us…

Buzz like a butterfly, sting like a bee, yep that’s Muhammad Ali, the man who brought class, consciousness, critical thinking to the boxing ring…

What would have contributed to such sporting success?… its partly motivation, passion, interest but more so the deep pleasure he got from his sport and from feeling out his opponents and defeating them ….

How is this linked to Dopamine?

Dopamine is that chemical in the brain that is associated with expecting pleasure…..

So we could say that during Muhammad Ali’s career he would have had a healthy does of dopamine circulating through his brain….

What links Dopamine to Addictions?

Dopamine plays a huge part in motivating effort and persistence because we are expecting to get pleasure from something….and what drugs do is leave lots of dopamine in the brain…so it is sought again and again and again…

Do you think after each match Muhammad Ali would have had a fair amount of dopamine in his brain at the next fight and possibly with each win and anticipation of another fight more dopamine again…

Retirement/Slowing our Pace and link to withdrawal

What happens then to sportsmen like Muhammad Ali when the season of boxing fights are gone?

Well he got PARKINSON’S as is well known…guess what that is linked with …low levels of Dopamine

The addict treats himself/herself by using dopamine levels to seek out that drug again and again…

But a retired sportsman is just that retired…and if/when we do not find a way to now adapt our energies/find ways to derive pleasure in some new way using our skills and talents we threaten our balance….

by possibly messing with all the related ‘happy hormones’ and chemicals in our brains that might show up in lots of different ways… no wonder then sometimes ‘aging’ persons turn to being a closet alcoholic or get that ‘Harley’ motorbike….

Living life with passion and purpose is not an age thing..its a living thing and once blessed with life the task is ours to keep motivated and discover our sources of pleasure in healthy and new ways….

#lifecoaching  https://karryon.privacemail.com/is all about collaborating with a #lifecoach to craft our desired future life/vision/goals in one or more areas of life…

{Aside Commentary} so my FB friend Rodney and myself chose our sides .. mine France & Portugal .. guess u win some and u lose some…anyways…

France theme song as that walked on that field “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEMUsC8ppU0… they came to win

#carryon tip approach the game with focus and determination…

and just shy of 15 mins there it was…these Frenchmen announced their presence … “Qui Qui Messy” “Non Non Me Me Messi” … this team was in sync #carryon tip find your tribe becuase there is no “i” in TEAM

Of Course Argentinian football with its reputation and reputable players like Maradona and Messi have a rep. for a reason … #carryon tip … these guys play football period… and so it was even with 1 down, they regrouped on the field, and scored late 1st half…announcing clearly #gameon…

and that was only the beginning as Argentina showed that they might have Messi but they play team too… with Mercado and Messi pairing to take that point home to the French players… remarkable goal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAFsYRNvinofor 2-in their favour … carryontip #know your strengths, observe the game, play to your strengths and keep going…

What an exciting match!

But our Frenchmen with great #carryon came back on the field … they read the play…and came prepared…

Pavard prepared…took a marvelous goal from an unlikely position and boiiiiii did he score… http://www.businessinsider.com/benjamin-pavard-goal-argentina-world-cup-2018-6 #carryon tip …be prepared and use your opportunities… whop there it was! the equalizer! #game on…

and then the French momentum was on..playing great football, and there it was young teen French player made his debut World Cup goal and then doubled up …. #carryon get in the game… https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jun/30/france-argentina-world-cup-last-16-match-report

What a Messy situation for Argentina… worth a pause.. it must be a lot of tension to play in the shadow of Maradona and with all the high expectations how does one cope with these Messi situations…#carryontip …give of your best but keep a level headhttps://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/messi-i-hope-football-pays-its-debt-to-me-2920806   and a level head Messi seems to have…great way to #carryon…

no wonder was Argentina able to score in overtime.. captain Messi for all the criticisms leveled at him gets one thing..its football and the game says .. “playon player!” and so it was a 90+ goal for 3…

and then there was Uuruguay not playing any messy football whatsoever…these players had great on the field chemistry, positioning for defense, and understood their opponents…

and while Portugal possession dominated as usual and lots of shots were taken…the finish continued to be elusive until Pepe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQtY_rW-6Y4

#carryon tip Uruguay played position & precision…. and that is what matters more than Portugal possession…

even so Pepe Portugal possession…held a great #carryon tip…when you are given the ball make it count….

But it was that chemistry between Cavani and Suarez part of the team, and that solid Uruguay defending and Cavani versatility that did Portugal in https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/30/sports/world-cup/portugal-vs-uruguay-ronaldo.html

Dr. Carol Dweck got straight to the point….

we eventually choose our Mindset as we approach situations, relationships or life in general

Our Mindset decides how we think about challenges and change…

Growth Mindset…..“A mistake is valuable if you do four things with it: recognize it, admit it, learn from it, forget it.” ― John Wooden

That is easy because the growth mindset views qualities as always in process with the potential for improvement, so mistakes are not failures but opportunities to do better

Fixed Mindset… some are bright/some are dumb, you are either good at it or not, protect people’s perceptions of your talents/gifts…

The fixed mindset puts us under constant stress, especially with how quickly information is shared now, we are always protecting our turf, even when or if …1) it is not necessary or 2) protecting our turf means denying ourselves a future bigger benefit

We become obsessed with getting it right, over getting better and better…

Great news!  We can Fix Our Life…by learning how to work in the growth mindset where we appreciate that we are all a work in progress and so we need not be afraid to suck!

http://www.karryonservices.com/company-profile/

Trauma tends to trouble & target our mind …. and one way it does this is when or if the trauma overtakes our being and sense of self and we now become the trauma … meaning all that we were before the trauma and all we are capable of being in the future becomes

coloured by what  we have experienced … so we become “the … man/woman” “the .. boy/girl” …

and it does not even stop there we then experience our self as lacking in worth compared to others … everybody is perceived of or thought of as better than us more worthy than us and so as we move throw life after the trauma it is like a walk of shame …

What happened?   …. we lost respect for ourselves … we lost the feeling of appreciating any positive good and or wholesome qualities within our self … all because the trauma messed with our minds

so for example in a country that was harshly hurricane hit … http://www.karryonservices.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/636424139622125747-USP-News-Hurricane-Maria.jpghttps://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2017/09/30/puerto-rico-by-the-numbers/720731001/

the countrymen and women might easily fall into the trap of thinking it was something about them as a people that attracted the event and so judge themselves harshly and feel ashamed even when in the presence of those from other countries …

And this is one of the responses we must guard ourselves from … we might have experienced the trauma but we are not our trauma .. and just like with a positive experience we can pull forth that which can be useful and helpful going forward … after all the trauma already happened and that was bad enough .. so why not pull the best possible going forward ..

and one sure thing that truly helps to prevent this falling into ‘shame and worthlessness’ is to stop a while and really consider what you have been through… how tough it was… how tough it would have been for anyone .. and the mere fact that you are working through it is surely to be admired .. would you not admire someone else in the situation who is working their way through…
