Moving you forward one step at a time

Music and Mental Health

Sometimes the message is clear; he or she is showing clearly for one reason or the other they don’t have the heart to love in a real way…and so they do things to sabotage, they run, they turn away do things to push away…and we remain there asking “why do you keep doing this?” or “what am I doing wrong?” when truth be told is that for one reason of the other the person is incapable of loving anyone in a real way (probably just for this time) but sometimes for some its for a very very long time… and then we might even want to tell the person ‘hush’ as we work harder and harder and harder thinking we have the ‘magic’ needed to bring love out of them… but trust James and hear him as his haunting message would live on forever as true in some situations

Thought of what to right to introduce this video but then saw this https://www.inc.com/justin-bariso/ubers-new-ceo-just-sent-an-amazing-email-to-employees-taught-a-major-lesson-in-emotional-intelligence.html There are lots of things daily that can set our emotional energy outward in a way we might regret later and sometimes there is a lot of emotional energy pent up from having to deal with a tough situation, that’s why today we give thanks for our music;

Within all societies there are groups and within those groups there are sub-groups. One of the popular forms of grouping in society is race, colour and ethnicity and gender.

Research clearly shows that male gender is given superior status to female gender and light skin to dark skin…

So how do dark-skin females manage self-esteem within such a global society? Anyone saw dreamgirls recently (much love to Beyonce and all the actresses) but seriously, well many live the dynamics in that movie daily…

Easy to understand then when ‘Spice’ says she has a dream;

It means that the more melanin present for a female, the more that female needs a song of empowerment to sing, while embracing her sister with the less melanin…

“That which we cannot face we cannot change”

A dynamic in psychology is where the victim identifies with the persecutor, and seems this is what the song is highlighting how those labeled ‘black’ have identified so much with the ‘white oppressive’ views that there is in-group discrimination which interestingly means there is no real genuine solid self-love even for those with a lighter shade…

So what do we do to break free from such views that hurt and do NOT EMPOWER;

Maybe there is no good way to be moved from a person with an ethnic heritage to a mere colour!

So in the Caribbean it finally happened, we got a singing cricketer in DJ Bravo…surprising? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT8cLYrJwwQ

What do Sport and Music have in common?

Energy: sport and music bring with it a certain energy and that really comes from the adrenaline that both give not only to the player/performer but to those enjoying the game/performance

Lyrics: YES! in music it is obvious what the singer is saying and the story they are sharing. In sports what the sportsman or sportswoman is saying to themselves and the story, they are telling themselves only becomes obvious in how they are performing. And this is what DJ Bravo did, simply but a melody and rhythm to what the sports professionals do on the field whether they realize it or not …

Selection: When the musician goes to record they must choose between different songs, melodies and ways of singing their song. Same it is as the sports professional prepares himself/herself for selection for certain tournaments and/or decides to play with one club/in one tournament or another… https://wired868.com/2018/10/24/walk-like-a-champion-dj-bravo-announces-retirement-from-west-indies-cricket/

Play On: Music or sports we play on and the game continues

and while play continues we are right here to support how the musician or sports professional alike carry on @ https://karryon.privacemail.com/ #lifecoaching and/or #therapy

Imagine the child who for one reason or the next is deprived of that parental care and attention that is so much needed for one reason or the other … and so has the need for support from an established institutionhttps://erlc.com/resource-library/articles/5-facts-about-orphans what sort of songs would this child begin to sing…

One such child was The Original De Fosto Himself… and often within the songs was that noticeable beat of #hardships #overcoming #oppression #courage #sufferage #struggle #socialjustice #discrimination #encouragement #willtosurvive

and this is understandable given the journey of such a child to adulthood…

but often these songs come when the ‘orphan’ is at an earlier point in his journey…

Later in the ‘orphan’ journey

The ‘orphan’ comes to realize that #struggle #hardships and #overcoming are not only the exclusive territory of the ‘orphan’ but of all of mankind… and so the ‘orphan’ sings more songs of #prosperity #progress #courage and #empowerment …

Music by its very nature appreciates the journey…music has a starting point, a build, a steady beat, usually some climatic catchy break, a chorus, and an eventual close…

so we have Ola completing his journey in the finals of the X Factor…

The disappointment was obvious and understandable but Ola! Ola! …

Music is a journey and soca has made some great strides here… +

Often Little (what we consider as little) Advances

time (so this is where the music has reached for now) like the waters flowing it has moved and would continue to make its movements…so let’s #Jiggle It #Jiggle It!

and work the musical mindset…focus on the journey…for now getting out of the X factor is simply like a musical bridge with lots more music to come

#Jiggle It #Jiggle It

Music with or without words must have a…

BASE BEAT…an underlying rhythm… it is what makes each song unique when our music has words we tell the story of the beat…

Here Ola shares his Caribbean-base beat and how his musical energy had this lady-diva responding to him… but he too shares in song how the females own base beat, how her musical energy was winning him over… it was one X-factor meeting another X-factor

Mind Music & Mental Health

Today and every day, we choose our base beat, would it be jazzy, heavy rock, the blues, sultry, soca beat, techno, rocky reggae…whichever we choose it is giving out energy… Ola gave a good showing of his, and we even right now are giving a showing of ours, and it would determine who we attract and who we don’t…

This year … a bold move for World Mental Health Day…

Right back to the Basics…

Our Young People…

what, why, where, do we go around thinking that life is all ‘fun and games’ for all our children and upcoming youth…well the info is there before 14 half of mental health concerns show up…

Let us add by around age 7, the personality is formed and fairly stable…

So let’s take it back to basics

Musical Mindset…

  • “tell everybody I reach, I coming inside right now!” … far too often as adults we might not take the time to appreciate just how much children ‘suck up’ the emotional climate of their environment and so we continue on with the conflicts, or whatever is happening…but when that child reaches, the child needs ’emotional safety and calm’ and if the environment is not ready to offer that, well the child literally ‘suffers’ through it but sooner or later the distress would show
  • Back to Basics … one of the biggest safeguards for children and youth is to feel good to say ” I am …. ….” and that comes when we from very early help in developing that pride in how they look, accepting all their thoughts and feelings as important and disciplining always in loving calmness
  • Back to Basics… our children come into a very competitive World but before they can get to that and deal well with it, they need our support through connection to bring forward their creativity that would point out their unique skills and talents
  • Back to BASICS… really take in the video… our objective is to basically keep children for the main part happy… not happy as in spoilt…but happy as in finding awe interest wonder and pleasantness as the learn and experience life
  •  Back to BASICS… “way before Facebook could post it…” far too many of our children are crying out for attention and connection on the social media… way before Facebook, there was family-time, chats with children by allowing them to feel free to approach us the adults

How does worry pay?

It pretends to pay…by making us think that “worry has power” to stop what we are worrying about from happening, or by keeping us alert…

but we must resist this type of thinking…

what I’m saying is true… what worry does is exhaust our energies, confuse our mind, so we can hardly think clearly and come up with ideas to deal with whatever the problem, concern or trouble might be…

so Never ever worry…

always consider it could actually be worse… in other words, the glass is half full, or at least there is a glass or a cup, or you know where to get a bottle (get the point)

and sometimes we do forget…and that’s when a good dose of self-talk works…

but more than self-talk is when we can get a tune, to sing it to ourselves, over and over, and so change not only our thinking, but create a good feeling…freeing up our mind to think things through…

so enjoy the music!
